The PediatricsDepartment №3 was founded in 1980 to upgrade the pediatricians qualification level and to improve theirs knowledge. In 2002, the Department of Pediatrics №3 was renamed to the Department of Children and Adolescent Diseases.

From 1980 to 1991 the founder and head of the department was a MD, Professor Zh.P. Gudzenko. During these years at the department worked: MD, ProfessorL.А. Bezrukov, Ph.D., as.Professor N.K. Unic, Ph.D., as. ProfessorG.A. Kartysh, Ph.D., assistant V.V. Korniychuk, Ph.D., assistant E.K. Kaminskaya, Ph.D., assistant O.A. Podorozhnij, Ph.D., assistant L.M. Sinchuk, Ph.D., assistant L.M. Litovchenko, Ph.D., assistant G.I. Grigorets.From 1991 to 1992 the department was headed by MD, Professor G.M. Tebenchuk.From 1992 to 2008 the department was headed by MD, professor, Honored Doctor of Ukraine S.S. Kozak.

In different years a famous specialists worked at the department, such as the Chief nephrologist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, MD, Professor I.V. Bagdasarova, the Chief hematologist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine V.M. Bebeshko, Deputy Head of the Department of Maternity and Child Protection of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine N.G. Karina.

From 2008 till nowthe department is headed by MD, professor, Honored Doctor of Ukraine Beketova G.V. She is the Chairperson of the Association of Pediatricians of Kiev, a member of the Board of theUkrainian Association of Pediatric Gastroenterologists and Nutritionists, a member of the World European and Ukrainian Club of Pancreatitis, a member of the Board of the Association of Pediatricians of Ukraine.

The department holds cycles of thematic improvement, specialization in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology, internship in pediatrics.
