Andriy V. Bilyayev, MD, Dr. Sc., Full Professor.

The Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care was founded in 1988. The department is a key unit in the field of "children's anesthesiology". Head of Department is Biliaiev Andriy Viktorovych, MD, Dr. Sc., Full Professor, Chairman of the Association of Anesthesiologists of Kyiv. With honors, in 1987, he graduated from Kyiv Medical Institute named after Academician O.O. Bohomolets. Later he studied in clinical residency at the Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimatology of Kyiv Medical Institute named after Academician O.O. Bohomolets. A PhD since 1992, doctor of medical sciences since 1999.Since 2000, he has been working as a Professor, and since 2013, as Head of the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education named after P.L. Shupyk. Prof. Biliaiev authored more than 100 scientific works, 8 monographs, co-authored two textbooks and three national textbooks. A scope of professional and scientific interests ‒ hemostasis, clinical nutrition, artificial ventilation of lungs, hemodynamics and shock, blood loss.The scientific direction of the department is the study of the problems of infectious and toxic shock in children and the development of methods for prevention and treatment of shock, the development of new methods of anesthesia and intensive care in children, the definition of the role of immunological diagnosis in the provision of targeted therapy of purulent inflammatory processes in children, the study of hormonal functions in children with complications of infectious diseases. The most important scientific research of the department is the development of methods for diagnosis, prognostication and treatment of infectious and toxic shock in children. At present, one of the areas of scientific work of the department is the prevention and treatment of complications of anesthesia and intensive care in children. During the existence of the department 25 textbooks, manuals and monographs have been published.
