On the initiative of NGO "Ukrainian League for the Development of Palliative and Hospice Care", the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine and other representatives of medical, social, financial, spiritual and legal communities of Ukraine, the 4th National Congress on Palliative and Hospice care was held in November 23-24, 2023 in Kyiv.
Despite the war and economic difficulties present, due to support of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and The Government of Ukraine, the development of palliative care in our country is going on. At the same time, in a frame of the palliative care trend, as a component of social and medical care at this stage of implementation, the obtained resources must be organized and evaluated for proper consolidation and further scientifically grounded expend.
Employees of the Department of Oncology took an active part in the work of the Congress, The Head of the Department of Oncology Professor Prokip Hordiychuk presented the vision of the team of clinicians on the problems that exist in the organization and provision of palliative care for oncological patients. The report was prepared by a team of co-speakers, consisted of experienced specialists in the organization and provision of palliative care Andriy Kondratenko and Oleksiy Kalachov, as well as young post-graduate scientists of the Department of Oncology Anna Konysheva and Mykola Gordiychuk. Based on the clinical material of the Kyiv City Clinical Oncology Center, which has The Department of Palliative Medicine since 2001, consisting of a 25-bed Hospital and The Mobile Palliative Care Units, the reasoned conclusions were presented to improve the quality of palliative care specifically for oncological patients.
As a result of the Congress work, the resolution was adopted, which included comments and recommendations for the state authorities to improve the quality of palliative care.
