The implementation of modern medical and educational standards into the teaching process is necessary today because of the requirements for professional doctor`s training, integration of Ukraine into an international educational society and reform of the health care system. Among these standarts is an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) carried out at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care.

Today, this is a standard, objective method for identifying competences and assessing clinical skills, adopted in Europe, the United States and other developed countries.

The residents of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care passed OSCE on  June 18, 2019. This educational system was used in order to determine the level of theoretical knowledge and practical skills during the final exam. This form of examination is not used at the department for the first time. The staff developed and implemented three new "stations": The Theoretical Station, Intensive Care Station and the Station "Complications during anaesthesia", this year.

According to the results the most difficult stations were "Intensive care", "Trauma, polytrauma" and "Airway Control".

Minimum passing score was 60 % (5 % higher than last year). Despite this the residents of the Department successfully completed all tasks. The average mean score was 73.8 %. The best results were shown by doctors V. Kovalenko (88.8 %), R. Kondratyuk (85.8 %), T. Kyslukcha (85.6%) and O. Zelenchuk (85 %).

The results of the examination were analyzed, shortcomings were identified and directions for further educational fields were identified.

After the end of the examination professor Oleg Loskutov noted that such modern standardized method as OSCE makes it possible to objectively and quickly assess the residents' knowledge and will be used by the department in the training and examination processes.
