On October 24 - 25, 2019 in Zaporizhzhia was held the VI scientific-practical conference with the international participation «New trends in the surgical treatment of obesity and related metabolic disorders».

In the introductory report Lavryk A.S. (doctor of medical sciences, professor, chief researcher at the department of gastrointestinal surgery of the Shalimov National Academy of Surgery and Transplantation, Head of the Association of Bariatric Surgery of Ukraine) emphasized the high exigency and necessity of treatment of obesity and metabolic syndrome in Ukraine, focusing on the need for a multidisciplinary approach and the pooling of specialists involved in the treatment of this pathology and surgeons engaged in metabolic surgery. The first day was divided into several structured meetings: «Malabsorptive surgery», «Restrictive surgery», «Complications and redo operations in bariatric surgery. Endoscopic treatment techniques», in which leading experts reviewed all the main directions of development and achievement of modern metabolic surgery. It should be noted that speakers have increasingly focused on minimally invasive and safe procedures, and a high quality of life after operations.

The second day began with a master class, at which Militsa K.M. (doctor of medical sciences, medical chief of St. Nicholas Clinic) performed laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, in the mode of live surgery, after which reports and discussions of topical issues of bariatric surgery continued. At this meeting PhD researcher of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of Shupyk National medical academy of postgraduate education - Zavertylenko D.S. (scientific adviser - head of the department, doctor of medical sciences, prof. Savoliuk S.I.) presented a departmental report on the topic «Assessment of quality of life in patients with metabolic syndrome after carrying out restrictive surgical treatment» (Savoliuk S.I., Lysenko V.M., Krestyanov M. Yu., Zavertylenko D.S.). This topic is related to the main strategic direction of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery of Shupyk NMAPE - miniinvasivinness (laparoscopy, endoscopy), and as well as being part of D.S. Zavertylenko's dissertation. (scientific adviser - head of the department, doctor of medical sciences, prof. Savoliuk S.I.).

The acquired knowledge, participation in current discussions, exchange of practical experience will be useful in planning the work of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery with interns and trainees of thematic improvement courses, while creating new training programs, courses and workshops.
