Jan Albert is a Professor in infectious disease control especially virology at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology, Karolinska Institute, and a senior consultant in clinical virology at the Department of Microbiology at the Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden.

He obtained his PhD degree at Karolinska Institutet in 1990. Jan Albert has published more than 200 referee-examined scientific papers. The research is different aspects of HIV evolution and variability and its biological consequences using conventional and next-generation sequencing. This includes how HIV evades cellular and humoral immunity.
