Military aggression necessitated the rapid adaptation of healthcare facilities that provided civilian assistance in peacetime.
From the first hours of the war, the Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery has been actively involved in the work on the clinical base Kyiv City Clinical Hospital № 8 to provide emergency surgical care to our military and the affected population.
But this work would not be effective without the support of our volunteers, who in an extremely short time and extremely difficult logistical conditions were able to mobilize efforts to provide everything necessary for an adequate outcome of the treatment process.
Thanks to the personal contacts of scientific and pedagogical workers and directly to the head of the department, prof. Savoliuk S., the work of volunteer staffs was coordinated (KYIV.HELPING, Наша Всюди, ZDOROVI agency та СВІЙ ДО СВОГО) to attract much-needed humanitarian cargo for the needs of the clinical base from foreign partners (Poland, Switzerland, Germany, France) - these were sets of surgical instruments (vascular and thoracic), VAC-systems, infusion solutions, suture materials, analgesics and antibacterials, wound dressings and antiseptics, external fixation systems and electrosurgical generators and instruments, modern dressings and anticoagulants, solutions for enteral and parenteral nutrition, fixation and mobilization bandages, etc.
The special value of the help was when the pupils of Department of Surgery and Vascular Surgery Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine took an active civil position, was in touch from the first days and personally coordinated the delivery of much-needed cargo for the wounded, such as surgeon Yulia Kashpurenko, who is part of volunteer worker "СВІЙ ДО СВОГО".
