The SI “Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine” (before 2013 – Kyiv City Heart Centre) has been the clinical base of the Department of Functional Diagnosis since 2008; the institute is headed by the Corresponding Member of the NAMS of Ukraine, Chief Free-Lance Expert in Cardiac Surgery and Great Vessels of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, MD, Dr. Sc Borys M. Todurov.
The staff members of the department work at the Clinical and Diagnostic Unit of the Heart Institute, perform cardiac stress tests, transthoracic echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography, daily ECG and arterial pressure monitoring etc. The staff members hold a lot of consultations at the Unit of Heart Rhythm Disorders Treatment and the other units of the Heart Institute.
To hold scientific and practical conferences combined with the staff of the Heart Institute is part of the cooperation between the department and its clinical site. The audience including the staff members, the employees of the Heart Institute and the other clinical and preventive institutions of Kyiv and Kyiv region are the participants of the conferences.
The All-Ukrainian Association of Experts in Arrhythmology and Cardiac Electrophysiology is founded at the department; the scientific and practical journal “Kardiokhirurhiia ta Interventsiina Kardiolohiia” (Cardiac Surgery and Interventional Cardiology) is published by the Association.

Consultative and diagnostic work is carried out by the staff of the department at the Institute of Heart, Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine. In the clinical-diagnostic department of the Institute of Heart, the staff carries out clinical consultations and diagnostic procedures, including exercise tests, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, daily monitoring of ECG and blood pressure. Teachers of the Department perform significant advisory work at the Department of Heart Rhythm Disorders and other departments of the Institute of Heart. All of them have a higher or first qualification category in one or two specialities: "Cardiology" and "Functional diagnostics".
The head of the department Professor O.Zharinov is actively working on improving the normative basis for functional diagnostics, in 2012-2017 - as the Chief Freelance Specialist in Functional Diagnostics of the Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine. In addition, he regularly conducts advisory work at the cardiology department of the Central Hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
Each year, the staff of the department actively participates in organizing and conducting preventive cardiological screening of the University staff.
